The tales spun around Hanthana allude to the notion that this land is a perfect sanctuary for those on a spiritual quest.

During the British colonial era, this mountain was famously referred to as the “Sleeping Soldier. “The name “Hantana” also has its origins in a particular event. In an effort to establish the Shyamopali sect in Sri Lanka, a group of Upali Thera and other sub-commissioned bhikkhus arrived in the country. After completing their mission, they returned to their homeland, except for one bhikkhu named Hantana, who chose to remain in the mountain range. He resided and worked in the forest, ultimately passing away there. History recounts that the forest in which he lived became known as Hantana in his honour. This temporary dwelling, nestled in seclusion within the Hantana locale, bears a significant connection to a storied legacy, making it an ideal haven for those who value mental emancipation. The quaint cabins, adorned with rustic thatched roofs and furnished with elements crafted from organic materials like cane and vines, further accentuate the natural marvels of Aranaya. The breath-taking vistas that unfold offer an immediate escape from the tempestuous milieu, allowing for a serene respite.

The soothing ambiance of this place is incredibly relaxing, making it a haven for those fatigued by the hustle and bustle of urban life and in pursuit of mental well-being. It’s evident that this locale serves as a paradise, not only for the locals but also for the tourists who visit to experience the marvels of this country. Another noteworthy feature of Hantana Eco Lodge is the addition of camping facilities for adventure enthusiasts.
