Embarking on a journey without leaving the comfort of your living room, a notion once reserved for dreamers has become an electrifying reality in the era of digital exploration. While the wanderlust within us yearns for distant lands, life’s intricate tapestry of time constraints, familial obligations, and the occasional tug of financial strings often leaves our travel dreams suspended in mid-air. Fear not, fellow dreamer, for avenues to satiate these unfulfilled desires weave a magical narrative of their own.

Books, the timeless portals to alternate realities, have long been a haven for those craving vicarious adventures. Within the bound pages, one can traverse uncharted territories and bask in the glow of distant sunsets. Equally captivating are the oral storytellers, the modern-day bards who regale us with firsthand accounts of their global escapades. Yet, the enchantment doesn’t stop there. In the symphony of technological advancements, the digital realm unfolds as a panoramic canvas where every nook and cranny of the world can be explored through the lens of intrepid wanderers.

MsTraveller, a daring and adventurous travel program graces the screens of Sri Lanka Rupavahini every Saturday at 6:00 pm. Directed by Thamasha Jayasuriya, this captivating odyssey celebrated its 50th triumphant episode on September 16. Thamasha, whose thirst for adventure rivals the most ardent explorer, navigated her way through the intricacies of advanced level education in biological sciences, ultimately securing a bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences. Yet, it was her keen attentiveness to the arts—sculpture and performing arts—that paved the luminous path towards the inception of MsTraveller.

This program, a nominee for the best documentary programs at the prestigious Raigam Teles in 2023, stands as a testament to its contrasting impact. It not only promotes the splendors of Sri Lankan tourism but also attaches viewers to the global tapestry of beauty, culture and adventures.

Thamasha, with her intrepid crew, has journeyed through more than 23 countries, crafting impressive travel documentaries that unravel the world’s mysteries. MsTraveller, beyond being a visual delight, serves as a bridge, strengthening international bonds, particularly in the realms of tourism and hospitality management. Through this lens, it brings an esteemed recognition, casting a glory upon Sri Lanka that resonates across borders. Beyond her conquests in the travel domain, Thamasha is a true polymath. In 2012, she bestowed upon Sri Lanka the mesmerising art of shadow drama. Leading her own company, “Vitalize,” she orchestrates enchanting shadow dramas and production works.

From local stages to foreign realms, Thamasha directs and takes centre stage, infusing life into this ancient art form.

Her professional aspiration involves directing a film for Netflix, a commitment to which she has wholeheartedly dedicated herself.
