Trinity impress at table tennis
Trinity College’s table tennis teams did well at the National Schools’ Games held at S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia. Their under-16 team led by Yevan Bandara, secured third place and the players who did well were Lasas Somachandra, Menula Bandara, Shafiullah Akram, Vihanga Sangakkara and Leeshitha Gunatillake.
The under-20 team led by Dan Bartholomeusz portrayed a noteworthy form in the preliminary stages of the tournament. The team had players like Akesh Dimantha, Mithum Munasinghe and Timothy Navarathanaraja and finished in fourth place.
Mahamaya basketball champs after 27 years
Mahamaya Girls College were able to win the All Island National School Games Basketball Championship, after 27 years. This year’s champion team consisted of Chithera Samarakoon (captain), Vishmi Karunaratne (vice captain), Chenuli Warnakulage, Kissalie Jayapala, Anuki de Silva, Buddhika Abeykoon, Nethmi Rupasinghe, Himara Wijeratne, Hirupama Chandrasekara, Inupama Wickramasena and Dayadi Ginige coached by Chamith Pushpakumra and managed by teacher in charge Chamila Siriweera under the guidance of principal Sashikala Senadeera.
Sylverstrian boxers to be honored
The boxers who kept the Sylvestrian flag flying high in the T.B. Jayah, Stubbs Shield and Youth Boxing meets are to be honored with awards at a function to be held at the Rivora Heights Hotel next Sunday organized by Old Sylvestrians Sports Club. The three boxing events gave them the honour of winning all three meets.
St. Sylvester’s College has produced a number of boxing stars over the years and their current showing adds to that elite list.
