Director of the film ‘Uthuru Sulanga’ (The Winds of Change), Chamara Janaraj Peiris movie was recognised at the South Asian Film Arts and Literature Festival (SAFAL) in Castle Hill, Sydney for his contribution to the industry in the region with his maiden film. The award was presented by the Member of Parliament, Australia, and member for Castle Hill, Mark Robert Hodges.
The main actress of ‘Uthuru Sulanga’ Kavinda Dulshani who performed her maiden main role was also awarded at the Festival for her contribution to the film.
‘Uthuru Sulanga’ premiered in Sydney, Australia was screened at the SAFAL Fest 2023 in Sydney.
Australian South Asian Forum Inc (ASAF) supported by the Commonwealth Department of Communication and the Arts, City of Ryde and Macquarie University presented the South Asian Film Arts & Literature Festival 2023 (SAFAL Fest) in Sydney.
SAFAL Fest in Australia is considered the only festival to showcase on a single platform, the rich and diverse art, performance and literary heritage of the dynamic eight nations of South Asia; Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Its objective is to make a positive contribution to multicultural diversity and harmony between all Australians through engagement, discovery and collaboration.
“I’m deeply honoured and humbled for the regional recognition and the enormous encouragement it entails and dedicate the award to ‘Uthuru Sulanga’ artistes and production team and the producers and also take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to the organisers of the SAFAL Film Festival and the Distributor in Australia, Lanka Events for making this possible,” Peiris said.
International and local artistes, media, dignitaries and distributors were instrumental in making the outreach of the festival, spanning domestic and international audiences.
