Kandy SC and Police pick squads
Kandy SC hosted Police SC to a friendly chuckers’ game of rugby at Nittawela on Friday and both teams made it a game to pick their squads for the upcoming inter club rugby season.
Kandy SC were made to fight hard to win by 22 points to 17. Both teams are coached by two Kingswood College products, Kandy SC by Fazil Marija and Police SC by Nilfer Ibrahim.
Isipathana player to manage Trinity rugby
Isipathana College product Kapila Silva will be named as the Trinity College senior rugby team manager on November 1. This is the first time that a product of Isipathana has come in as manger of Trinity rugby.
Kapila started his rugby at Isipathana College and played for the senior side from 1995 to 1997 as lock forward and wing forward. Straight form school he moved to CH and FC in 1997 and in the following year joined CR and FC.
He then joined Kandy SC and played until 2008 and became the team manager the following year.
He also donned the Sri Lanka jersey in both forms of the game.
Kandy to regain image
Kandy is all out on a collective drive to promote sports in the district and regain its place as a top performer in the arena.
Many old hands and new thinking is picking up fast and it will not come as a surprise if both outdoor as well as indoor sports come full cycle.
Not only rugby and cricket, but sports like hockey, football, basketball, netball, swimming and boxing are finding its feet and much more is expected to hear about the progress of these sports in the coming months and years.
