The relics unearthed from the Deegawapiya site during the excavations were brought to the Gatabaru Raja Maha Vihara, Akuressa on Tuesday to provide the devotees with an opportunity to pay their homage to the sacred relics and the Crest-Gem.
The sacred relics and the Crest Gem remained at the Gatabaru Raja Maha Vihara on November 1 and 2 for public veneration. Subsequently, the revered articles will be displayed at several Buddhist shrines in Matara for public veneration.
The Deegawapiya Stupa and the premises have been damaged due to various invasions in the past and therefore, restoration works are under way to bring it back to its former glory. Hence, the devotees have the opportunity to support this meritorious act by making financial contributions to the restoration project while worshiping the sacred omniscient relics and Crest Gem of the Deegawapiya Stupa.
The devotees can venerate the revered articles at the Matara Sacred Bodhiya premises today and tomorrow, at Weherahena Poorvarama Rajamaha Vihara on November 6, 7 and 8, at Devinuwara Parama Wichithrarama Rajamaha Vihara on November 9 and 10 and at Wewurukannala Budu Rajamaha Vehera premises on November 11 and 12.
