Former Features Editor and a Coordinating Editor of the ‘Dinamina’ newspaper, senior journalist Amara P. Weerasinghe passed away at the Ragama General Hospital on Friday, November 3. Weerasinghe, who was 75 at the time of his death, entered journalism through the ‘Janadina’ newspaper.
A graduate of the Kelaniya University, specialising in Mass Communication, he joined Lake House after his university education. As the Features Editor, he played a pivotal role in the development of the ‘Dinamina’ and edited the book ‘Dinamina Abiman’ published to mark the ‘Dinamina’s’ hundredth anniversary. Amara P. who gained a name as a poet, made the front pages of ‘Dinamina’ through his poems many times. He was the husband of teacher G. T. R. Mallika and father of three daughters. His remains lie at 303, Maigaha Junction, Batuwatta, Ragama. The funeral will be held at the Batuwatta cemetery today, November 5 at 5pm.
