Public Security Minister Tiran Alles yesterday said that underworld criminal Nadun Chinthaka, alias Harak Kata, tried to buy him off with Rs 700 million through an associate not to bring him to Sri Lanka, and send him instead to Dubai.

Minister Alles was addressing the OICs of Police Stations in the Southern Province in Galle.

He said underworld criminals are prepared to spend any amount of money to buy off people to carry out their illegal operations.

He asked the Police not to become their victims. He said these criminals are prepared to pay millions even to throw him out of his Ministerial post. Speaking at the same event, DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon said that there have been requests from some police officers that they have received threats from the underworld, and therefore, they need police protection.
