St. Thomas’ College, Bandarawela emerged champions in the Under-17 Division III schools cricket tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.
They beat Sri Sumangala College Hikkaduwa by 60 runs in the final played at De Mazenod College ground in Kandana on October 31.
Electing to bat first S. Thomas’ posted 171 in 37.5 overs. Skipper Pravishka Nadeen scored 61 runs in 70 balls with seven boundaries and two sixes while Shimalka Kanchana scored 46. Pravishka Nadeen and Shimalka Kanchana put on a partnership of 50 runs for the seventh wicket.
Tharun Damith claimed three wickets for 21 runs.
Sri Sumangala were bowled out for 111 in 38.1 overs as Kalhara Dissanayake claimed four wickets for 21 runs and Niksha Perera claimed three wickets for 30 runs to do the damage.
More than 350 teams participated in the tournament.
