The Chairman of the Central Environment Authority (CEA) arrested last Friday on bribery charges along with two others by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) was produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court yesterday, according to Bribery sleuths. They said that due to the absence of the Magistrate, the Acting Magistrate instructed them to produce the suspect in Court tomorrow, Monday.

The arrest was made as the Bribery investigators intercepted the suspect while accepting a bribe of Rs 10 million from a foreign party to facilitate a permit related to the storage of discarded fuel from vessels, according to reports. He is reported to be the highest-ranking Government official apprehended on bribery charges this year.
