The Past Pupils’ Association of Good Shepherd Convent,Kotahena launched its inaugural and first foray into the exciting game ofcricket through its much-anticipated Past Pupils’ League Softball Cricket Tournament.
This exciting event aims at uniting and bringing together the Past Pupils’ of Girls’ and Boys’ schools in Colombo and suburbs for a day of fun and camaraderie while raising funds for essential infrastructure development at its Alma Mater.
The tournament briefing and draw took place at the historic Old Bens Sports Club recently with the participation of representatives from invited schools. The event promises to become a tradition for years to come.
The tournament would not only serve as an opportunity for alumni to re- live their school days but also open the door to co-operation and collaboration for an inclusive effort in raising the standard of this prestigious school.
The event which takes the form of a Softball Cricket Tournament will see both ladies and gentlemen showcasing their agility and sportsmanship. Ladies’ matches will be an open event with no age restrictions, ensuring that women of all generations can participate and enjoy the day.
The gentlemen will, however, compete in two categories with the Youth Category for participants aged 20-35 and the Masters Category for those over 35. This ensures an inclusive and competitive environment for all male past pupils.
The event has garnered the support of prominent figures in the sports and entertainment industry. Former Sri Lankan Cricketer Chaminda Vaas has readily stepped in as the Event’s Mentor, offering valuable guidance and inspiration to the participants. The event Ambassadors include former Miss Sri Lanka Rozanne Diasz and Anjalee Ekanayake, the current Women’s Basketball Team Captain, who through their presence and support would add colour to the event. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday December 2 at 8am and will continue all day long at St. Benedict’s College Sports Ground.
It is expected that enthusiastic alumni, friends, and family would form part of that all-important spectator gathering, making this day a memorable and joyful celebration of Sportsmanship and Camaraderie.
