The Consulate General of India in Hambantota, in partnership with the Department of Ayurveda, Southern Province, held an Ayurveda Medical Camp to celebrate the 8th National Ayurveda Day.

The event was held at the Chethiyagiri Meditation Centre in Bolhinda, Kaluwarawewa, Hambantota on November 9, and attracted over 150 participants from different age groups.

This highlights the increasing recognition of Ayurveda as a comprehensive healthcare solution.

The initiative went beyond the conventional medical camp setup, offering free Ayurvedic medicines, consultations and comprehensive health check-ups to all attendees.

Renowned Ayurvedic specialists from the Department of Ayurveda, Southern Province, offered their expertise, providing valuable insights and recommendations on the principles and benefits of Ayurveda in promoting overall wellness.

The Consulate General of India in Hambantota extended its appreciation to all participants, experts, and the Department of Ayurveda in Southern Province, for their vital role in making this event a great success.

The initiative underscores a commitment to advancing the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda for the betterment of individuals and communities alike.

The celebration of Ayurveda Day is of great significance, as it occurs annually on Dhanvantari Jayanti (Dhanteras) to commemorate the birth anniversary of Lord Dhanvantari.

He is known as the ‘God of Ayurveda’ and is mentioned in the ancient Sanskrit text Sushruta Samhita, which deals with medicine and surgery. The Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, observes “Ayurveda Day” every year and carries out various activities at both national and international levels.

Aligning with the theme of India’s G20 Presidency, ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family), the focal theme for Ayurveda Day 2023 was announced as ‘Ayurveda for One Health,’ with the tagline ‘Ayurveda for Everyone on Every Day’ – ‘Har Din Har Kisi Ke Liye Ayurveda.’

The theme highlights the interconnectedness of the human-animal-plant-environment interface, promoting the holistic approach of Ayurveda in maintaining health and harmony.
