The group of Sri Lanka Missions’ Personal Assistants – SLMPA (Govt. Rtd) consisting of Government Service retired Personal Assistants who served in Sri Lanka missions overseas, reached its first milestone at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Monarch Imperial, Sri Jayewardenepura, Kotte recently.
Ambassador Ranjith Uyangoda, senior retired official of the Sri Lanka Foreign Service, who has held Ambassadorial positions and various high-ranking positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest together with Mrs. Uyangoda who is serving as a Director General in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Group gathered initially on October 1, 2022 at Amora Lagoon Hotel, Seeduwa for a day celebration marking its establishment with the participation of 21 members out of the 43 and its current membership is 48 including members who have settled overseas after retirement. Although all were assigned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Personal Assistants, opportunities to work together under one roof as co-workers were very rare due to deployment of various destinations around the world in Sri Lanka Missions abroad to serve as Personal Assistants to Ambassadors. Therefore, our relationships as friends were often maintained mostly through technological tools. In clearing all those barriers, the SLMPA Group introduced a new platform to refresh bonds which may fade after retirement, adapting with a productive lifestyle in engaging with social responsibilities and entertainment related activities which were missed immensely while in service due to various official and personal commitments.
In believing that helping needy people is vital to strengthen the whole society, the SLMPA Group is prioritising charitable activities while organising entertainment related activities for personal well-being of members in strengthening relationships among members.
