India captain Rohit Sharma was the most visibly shaken
India’s cricketers were taught a bitter lessen by the Head master of Australia as they succumbed to their most embarrassing World Cup defeat while losing the final they were favoured to win at the 130,000-strong venue at Ahamedabad, India last Sunday.
The match was all over for the Indians who made just a total of 240 which was never enough to put the entire Australian team under pressure.
The home team had just one fleeting moment when they had the Aussies at 47 for 3 in defending the target but from the blues came Travis Head who made a total mess of the Indian bowlers with a thunderbolt century (137) that settled the issue and gave his country a sixth World Cup after winning the top prize in world cricket first in 1987 and then in 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2015.
The Indians had no answer to Head as he and Marnus Labuschagne (58 not out) held the innings together with a partnership of 192 runs.
