Lumbini Aquaria International (Pvt) Ltd., a pioneer ornamental fish exporter in Sri Lanka, won two ‘Best Exporter’ awards in its sector at the Presidential Export Awards for of the Company’s export performance in 2021-22 and 2022-23.
Lumbini Aquaria is credited with exporting over two billion ornamental fish to 26 countries since its inception in 1952, and is also a past winner of the annual export awards presented the National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka (NCE).
Lumbini Aquaria Chairman Vibhu Perera said: “These awards are a testimony to the resilience and courage of the Company during the worst economic downturn witnessed in our country. Our continued success in the export market is a tribute to the passion and hard work of our 100 plus employees.”

Owned by Forsyth Capital, the 71-year-old Lumbini Aquaria is Sri Lanka’s first ornamental fish and aquatic plants exporter and operates five breeding facilities around Sri Lanka. The Company exports over a thousand different breeds including freshwater fish, cold water fish, marine fish and invertebrates, as well as aquatic plants.
Lumbini Aquaria was set up by Lloyd Perera and is the market leader in the ornamental fish industry in Sri Lanka. The Company supports over 100 fish-grower families and possesses one of the best Aquaculture Research and Development facilities in the country, a company official said.
