North Central Province (NCP) Governor Maheepala Herath said that the NCP should always bear out the educational sector development in the province.
He said it is commendable that even though there has been a dearth of nearly 4,000 teachers in the North Central Province, the teachers’ community in the province have been toiling hard for the wellbeing of the children in the Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa districts.
The Governor was addressing a teachers-parents meeting at the St. Joseph College Anuradhapura recently to felicitate student Nawanga Hansaraj Fonseka who is one of the five highest scorers in Sri Lanka at the 2023 Grade 5 Scholarship Examination.
The Governor also presented the student a Rs. 200,000 cash donation and a consignment of educational appliances from the North Central Provincial Educational Development Fund.
He said the 2023 Grade 5 Scholarship Examination results of the province symbolise the efforts and endeavours of the teachers and parents.
It was disclosed at the ceremony that of the 275 students of St. Joseph College who sat for the Grade 5 Scholarship examination, 100 passed the exam scoring more than 70 marks. It was highlighted that this was the first time that a student in NCP has scored an island first at a Grade 5 Scholarship Examination.
Governor Maheepala Heath said that the Government alone cannot take the entire responsibility in moulding intelligent beneficial citizens.
Both the teachers and parents should work hard and maintain a close coordination with the Government to produce a nation of intelligentsia for the pride and the prestige of the country.
Provincial Education Secretary Abaya Laksmi Hewapathirana, Secretary to the Governor Sujantha Ekanayake, Provincial Education Director S.M.W.
