Over 1000 players will vie for honours at the 71st National Badminton Championships which begins on December 4.
Organized by Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB), the Championship promises to be a thrilling showcase of talent according to officials.
The tournament features a compelling schedule of events at the Sri Lanka Badminton Indoor Courts, Mercantile Badminton Association Indoor Courts and DS Senanayake College Indoor Courts. Sri Lanka Badminton said that there has been unprecedented enthusiasm among players as the sport’s governing body had received an impressive number of entries. The Championships will encompass a diverse range of events, spanning from Under 11 to 19 in the Junior Category and over-30 to over-70 in the Senior Category.
Notably, the spotlight will be on the Open events category, showcasing men’s and women’s Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles as the focal point.
President of Sri Lanka Badminton, Rohan de Silva, said that they were happy to note the encouragement given to them by the Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe whose place has now being taken Harin Fernando.
Minister Roshan Ranasinghe was the only person who gave us a good hearing to our request. He presented us with a two acre plot of land at Ridigama for Badminton Association and already out Association has taken steps to start work on a project to build a well planned Indoor Stadium for badminton.
“We as the Association expect the new Minister to allow us to go ahead with our proposal which we have already commenced”, said De Silva.
