One of the top teams in the running for the inter club league rugby title CR and FC produced a powerful display in their opening match to beat Army 55-8 on their home ground at Panagoda yesterday.
There was nothing the Army team could do to stop the Red Shirts from being extremely dangerous on the run from the very first whistle. The end result was that CR ran circles left, right and centre all over the Army defences as the Longden Place team ran down as many as eight tries in the match, six of which were converted.
CR led 36-3 at half time which only showed that Army will have much to learn this season.
The home team could only reply with an unconverted try and a penalty much to the disappointment of their supporters who never expected them to concede more than half a century of points in their opening match of the season.
It will take some recovery for Army to get back on their feet again in a season that holds much promise for teams like CR and FC and Havelocks who beat Air Force 49-08 in their opening match on Friday.
