NAFLIA conference offers insights into ‘Life Insurance in a Recovering Economy’

The Marketing and Sales Forum (MSF) of the Insurance Association of Sri Lanka (IASL) hosted the 14th National Forum for Life Insurance Advisors (NAFLIA) Conference on November 27 at the Monarch Imperial, Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte.

The theme of this year’s NAFLIA conference was ‘Life Insurance in a Recovering Economy – Focus on Fortitude’.

NAFLIA attracts leading Sales and Marketing professionals and Life Insurance advisors from the Life Insurance industry. Chief Guest Zarook, Chairman and Guest of Honour Mrs. Damayanthi Fernando, Director General and other officials of the Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (IRCSL), Udeni Kiridena, Chief Executive Officer of Sri Lanka Insurance institute (SLII), Charith Mahendraraja, President of Sri Lanka Insurance Broker Association (SLIBA) and CEOs of the Life Insurance industry were in attendance.

Chandra Schaffter, a veteran in the Insurance industry also graced the occasion and shared his valuable knowledge with the audience.

The conference was attended by more than 850 Life Insurance advisors from the Life Insurance Industry. There were many knowledge sharing sessions lined up for the audience which highlighted on how the industry should focus on fortitude in these challenging times.

The second session of the conference was the prestigious Life Insurance Industry Sales Awards 2022. This special awards ceremony celebrated the exceptional achievements of 32 Top performers of the Life Insurance industry.

The winners were selected through the competition held by IASL during the Life Insurance month in 2022.

The panel discussion was moderated by Dr. Nishan de Mel, Executive Director of Verité Research (Pvt) Limited.

The panel consisted of Thushara Ranasinghe, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Ceylinco Life Insurance Limited, Iftikar Ahamed, Managing Director – Softlogic Life PLC, Chandana L Aluthgama, Chief Executive Officer of SLIC and President of IASL, Lasitha Wimalaratne Chief Executive Officer of HNB Assurance (Life) and Vice President of IASL and R. Rajnikanth,

Chandana L Aluthgama, President of the Insurance Association of Sri Lanka, said that as an industry, it is important to understand that in the current economic background, the need for protection is on the rise, and it is the responsibility of insurance professionals to seize this opportunity. Providing protection goes beyond a business transaction; it is also a social responsibility that all insurance professionals should undertake.

He said that it is commendable how the insurance industry has been resilient through challenging times, and with the economy on the path to recovery, there will be ample opportunities for all insurance companies to grow as an industry and contribute to the growth of the economy of the country.

The Insurance Association of Sri Lanka (IASL) is the representative body of the insurance industry in the country. It was formed in 1989. All insurance companies that operate insurance business are members of IASL.

At present, all 27 registered insurance companies are members of IASL and the association is led by the common objective of bringing the insurers together to create a platform for cooperates regarding the matters affecting the common interest and welfare of its members and is synonymous in its efforts to provide protection through insurance to the Sri Lankan public.
