Among the many books I have read Madol Doowa is my favourite book. It is a children’s novel written by the famous Sri Lankan writer Martin Wickramasinghe. The book is an adventure story. This book has been translated into several languages.
The main characters of this story are Upali and Jinna. The leader of the boy’s gang is Upali. They do many mischievous things and get into trouble. Later, Upali becomes a kind and hardworking young man.
Upali and Jinna cultivate an island called Madol Doowa. They meet a new friend there called Podi Mahaththaya. They grew many vegetables and sold them to markets and later on they became good citizens.
Upali looked after his stepmother and his father. It is interesting to read about each one of them. I have read Madol Doowa thrice and can read it over and over again.
We can learn many things from this story. I like this story very much.
