CR & FC pepped up on their game with purpose in the second half to snatch an impressive 19 points to 6 points win over Police SC in their Nippon Paint Inter-Club League rugby encounter played at Police Park yesterday.
The Red Shirts scored three tries and two were converted while Police scored through two penalties.
Until such time the game dragged on in a lackluster fashion with many infringements involving both sides. Many CR fans expected their side to win by a wider margin but Police too played their defensive game very well to thwart the threatening moves made by the visitors.
Police took the early lead through two penalties put over by Prince Chamara within the first twenty minutes of play. Thereafter they managed to keep the Red Shirts at bay and even made a few threatening advances.
Police led 6-0 at half time.
CR toiled thereafter and on making some daring advances many a time they spilled the ball or indulged in infringements that did not help them get the points on the board.
It was only after the 50th minute that CR scored their first try by skipper Soyuru Anthony who received the ball from a loose maul to dive over.
Anthony scored again soon after that try to give CR their 12 points. This try was converted by Kavindu Yasas.
CR maintained their push into Police territory and scored another try by Lasindu Karunathillake that was converted by Yasas to give CR their 19 points that forced Police way too behind to catch up.
