‘Galle Concerto 2024’ to promote Southern tourism globally

A series of events will be organised throughout January and February, on the theme ‘Galle Concerto 2024’ to promote the Southern coastline as a tourist destination.

The organisers of these events aim to showcase a broad array of artistic elements of the Sri Lankan culture through a series of programmes hosted by different Southern coastal towns.

The ‘Galle Concerto 2024’ will open with a three-day event ‘Rhythms of Paradise’ in Koggala on January 12.

This event aims to highlight the rhythms of Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage through a dazzling mosaic of echoing beats, traditional dance and classical literature that has evolved through the harmonious blend of indigenous traditions.

The opening event will be choreographed by Sri Lanka’s renowned artists Jananath Warakagoda, Channa and Upuli Wijewardena and feature performances by internationally acclaimed local artists, including Bathiya and Santhush.

This event will also feature sessions highlighting the classical and contemporary works of Sri Lanka literature, including the works of famed Sri Lanka author Martin Wickremasinghe and a reenactment of Gamperaliya. The event will centre around the Koggala Air Force Base and the historical Martin Wickramasinghe folk Museum. By drawing in global attention to this festival the organisers hope to showcase the important works of one of Sri Lanka’s foremost authors to woo more high spending tourists to Sri Lanka. The event will also feature a series of workshops where the participants can engage in traditional mask painting, batik designing, pottery, painting and traditional jewellery making. Participants will also have several adventure events with the aim of attracting young tourists.

The event will also feature two exhibitions the first, navigating the past will showcase ancient maps and maritime charts of Sri Lanka

These cartographic masterpieces will provide an immersive experience shedding light on Sri Lanka’s pivotal role in regional trade and global exploration.

The second exhibition would be a photography exhibition on Sri Lanka’s biodiversity through captivating images captured by talented photographers.

The organisers also hope to promote local products and hotels too could reap the benefits.
