Managing Director of Monara Creations, Ranjith Nihal Kulasinghe with Chinese investors in Shandong China

Monara Creations, a leading name in the field of Pantry manufacturing sector in Homagama, have signed an agreement with a Chinese company, Dara Group based in Shandon, to locally manufacture ‘plywood boards’ and ‘high pressure laminating boards.’

These boards are used for the manufacture of pantry cupboards.

Managing Director of Monara Creations Ranjith Nihal Kulasinghe said that they have been in the business for 15 years and one the biggest overheads for them are to import these items and the procedure when importing them.

He said that due to the sheer quality of their pantry cupboards and superior installation process their products are much sought after for several years.

“With the economy picking up and the tourism sector booming we foresee more ‘orders’ for our products. Due to this we tied up with this Chinese company for them to send the raw material to Sri Lanka and for us to add the finishing touches to it and use it for our production.”

“We will also invest around Rs. 50 million to build a new factory in the industrial estate in Horana and after six months of production we hope to export these boards to the Middle East and the region including India helping the country to gain FOREX through a novel export product.”

“First we hope to start with the making of plywood boards and then move to ‘high pressure laminating boards.”

He said that the Chinese company which did a survey of our project and the regional market said that with the Chinese labor getting more expensive it was more economical for them to assemble in Sri Lanka and re export. “Exporting via Sri Lanka also gives tax incentives to Chinese companies.” “We hope to import machinery next April after the land is finalized and commence production mid next year.”

He said that the venture will also generate over nearly 100 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Monara Creations recently won Gold at the IDB Annual Awards under the ‘Wooden Related Interior Fit Out Sector’ category.

“This award is an endorsement by IDB for our dedicated craftsmanship and which has given us confidence to continue our business more aggressively making bigger investments.”

He recalled that the experience in South Korea where he worked for nearly eight years gave him a lot of experience to start his business and develop up to the present standard.

“Apart from the local business we also closely work with a few hotels in Maldives.”
