The relics unearthed from the Deegawapiya site during the excavations and the Crest-Gem which are in exposition around the island to provide the devotees with an opportunity to pay homage, was placed at the Kahawaththa Purana Rajamaha Vihara yesterday.
The sacred relics and the crest gem will remain at the Kahawaththa Purana Rajamaha Viharaya today 17 for public veneration.
Subsequently, the revered articles will be displayed at several Buddhist shrines covering the Ratnapura area for public veneration to provide the devotees with an opportunity to pay homage during the rare exposition.
The Deegawapiya Stupa and the premises had been damaged due to various invasions in the past and therefore, restoration works are currently under way to bring it back to its former glory.
Hence, the devotees have the opportunity to support this meritorious act by making financial contributions to the restoration project while worshiping the Sacred Omniscient Relics and Crest Gem of the Deegawapiya Stupa.
Arrangements have been made for the exposition of these revered articles at the Ganegama Rajamaha Vihara premises, Pelmadulla from December 18 to 20.
The relics will thereafter be placed at the Weragama Sri Pushparamaya, Palawela from December 22 to 24. Thereafter, the sacred relics will be taken in a religious procession to the Ratnapura Sri Sumana Saman Devalaya.
