Countries in the South Asian region have decided to set up the Security Headquarters of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) in Sri Lanka.
The decision was reached at the Conference of Security Advisors in Mauritius where Colombo’s statement on the security of the Indian Ocean Region was presented.
Indian and South Asian representatives along with Southern African nations participated.
The conference agreed to the proposal presented by Sri Lanka’s representative, President’s Senior Adviser on National Security, Sagala Ratnayaka.
Henceforth, all activities to ensure the security of the Indian Ocean Region will be implemented with Sri Lanka as the centre.
The Indian Ocean Security HQ will be set up at the BMICH next month and will be later moved to a permanent building.
