CH and FC kept their new found identity as a force to reckon with as they beat Navy SC by 34 points (5 tries, 3 conversions, 1 penalties) to 14 points (2 tries, 2 conversion) in their Nippon Paint ‘A’ Division inter-club League rugby match at Welisara yesterday.

At half time the winners were leading 22 points to 7.

CH and FC opened scoring in the 12th minute of the game when their hooker Pulasthi Dassanayake scored a try to which Hirusha Sampath missed the conversion.

CH increased the score to 12-0 in the 18th minute of play when flanker Nirosh Perera touched down for another try and Sampath made the conversion.

Navy cut down the lead to 7-12 in the 27th minute of play when burly prop forward Stefan Gregory sprinted his way over for an excellent try for Isuru Kongahawatte to convert.

CH increased their lead to 19-7 when Charith Silva touched down for a try in the 32nd minute which was converted by Sampath.

In the 40th minute of the game full back Sampath made CH to increase the lead further with a 35 metre penalty making the scores 22-7 at which stage lemons were taken.

After the resumption CH replacement hooker Prasath Madusanka went over for a superb try that was converted by Sampath to increase the lead to 29-7.

But in the final 10 minutes of play Navy SC closed the gap to 14-29 when Denuwan Wickramaarachchi collected the ball and ran down nearly 40 metres to touch down and Kongahawatte made the conversion.

In the dying moments CH hooker Prasath Madushanka managed to score his second try through a driving maul and full back Hirusha Sampath missed the conversion.
