Continuing the healthy trend in the number of arrivals, Sri Lanka tourism attracted a record number of 128,047 arrivals for the first three weeks of December. This is the highest figure recorded for the first three weeks for any month.
With this the number of arrivals up to December 21 stood at 1,404,998 and is set to surpass the 1.5 million mark for the year. The country only recorded 719,978 for 2022 and 91,961 for the entire month of December 2022.
Sri Lanka so far has received over USD 1.7 billion in revenue from tourism.
Again India topped the arrivals list with 25,990 (20%) arrivals while the Russian Federation with 17,922 (14%) were the top two source destinations for Sri Lanka. Both these countries enjoy free visa on arrivals.
The third top destination for Sri Lanka for the first three weeks of December 2023 was the United Kingdom with 13,042 while Germany (8,922) Australia (6,704) and China (5,983) followed. – SS
