The Sri Lanka Railways (SLR) and the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) will commence special train and bus services for the Sri Pada (Adam’s Peak) pilgrimage season from December 26 (Unduvap full moon Poya day), on the advice of Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena.
The SLR has lined up its services under several sectors for pilgrims travelling to Sri Pada.
A special train service will run today from Colombo Fort to Badulla and from Badulla to Colombo Fort and from Kandy to Badulla and Badulla to Kandy to facilitate regular train services for the convenience of pilgrims and travellers during the pilgrimage season and the December school and Christmas vacation.
Rest stops will be available at the Hatton railway station and arrangements are being made for a combined bus and train service from the Hatton railway station to Nallathanni and from Nallathanni to Hatton.
More ticket counters will be opened at railway stations for the pilgrimage season, and special trains have been scheduled in addition to the usual trains on weekends and long weekends.
The SLTB’s Sri Pada pilgrimage special bus service will commence from Tuesday, December 26. Minister Dr. Gunawardena has given instructions to continue this special service till the end of the pilgrimage season. Buses will operate as a combined train and bus service from the Hatton railway station to Nallathanniya, a bus service from Colombo to Nallathanniya via the Hatton road, and a bus service from Colombo to Nallathanniya via Norton, and these buses will run on weekends and also as special services.
