Leading junior golfer Kaya Daluwatte bagged her award for the third successive year as the best in the island at the Sri Lanka Prima Junior Open Golf championship that concluded on Friday (22) at the RCGC course.
Kaya who won the title for the past three years as well, finished on top of the Gold division for girls between the ages of 15 to 19. She continued to play excellent golf on all three days to finish off with an impressive aggregate gross score.
Jevahn Sathasivam who is a little known exponent from Anuradhapura and showing promise for the future played impeccable golf to emerge overall champion in the boys’ category. He obtained an impressive 70 on the final day to finish with an aggregate of 210 strokes from the three rounds. His performance at this championship saw him get ahead of the more accomplished junior player in Shehan Algama who has also won Senior golf tournaments this year.
Yannik Kumara who maintained second place in the tournament finished the final day with a score of five over 77 on the final day while Reshan Algama finished in third place with an aggregate score of 221.
Sherine Mithara displayed improvement in her performance on the third day with a score of two over 74 and finished second behind Kaya.
Aaliyah Laiza Achary finished in third spot having improved from her display on the first two day.
Adhithya Weerasinghe returned a score of 80 on the third day to emerge winner of the Silver Division for boys while Keshav Algama secured second place and Kaiyen Johnpillai ended third in this division.
Keya Abhayaratne continued her dominance to win the Silver division for girls with an aggregate score of 291.
Lavidu Premaratne scored an impressive gross score of 65 to aggregate 184 to win the Bronze division for boys. Udeera Bandara finished second while Yehansa Senanayake ended third with an aggregate score of 207.
In the Bronze division for girls there was a close battle between two Indian sisters Bhavika Unni who edged Avighana Unni by one stroke.
Kaitlyn Norton secured the third place with an aggregate score of 209.
In the Copper division for boys Revaan Amarasinghe fended off a challenge from Indian Vivaan Singh to win by two strokes. Danik Daluwatte came back in the last two rounds to finish third.
India’s Aastha P Rao claimed the title in the Copper division for girls with a wide gap of 20 strokes. Vihara Herath from Anuradhapura finished second and India’s Aashna Amogha ended third.
This Junior Open Amateur golf championship was organized by the Sri Lanka Golf Union and Junior Sub Committee sponsored by Prima.
