
Imeth de Silva the champion
Imeth de Silva proved his dexterity and wisdom in no uncertain terms as he became the undisputed champion of the Sri Lanka National Scrabble Championship last week at S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia.
His prowess was such that his dominance was evident as he triumphed in 17 out of 19 games, securing a remarkable three-game lead over his closest competitor.
As the Scrabble captain of S. Thomas’ College in 2022, De Silva returned to his alma mater a year later to write his name in letters of gold in the annals of the National Title. Adheesha Dissanayake, the reigning Under 16 World Champion, secured the first Runner-up position with 14 wins out of 19 while Thulnith de Silva, the reigning Junior National Scrabble Champion ended as the second runner-up, showcasing resilience and skill with 14 victories.
The Sri Lanka National Scrabble Championship celebrated and showcased the mastery of words and the rising stars in the country.
The Sri Lanka National Scrabble Championship 2023, organized by the Scrabble Federation of Sri Lanka provided the platform for 20 finalists to face off in an intense contest starting with the National Scrabble Championship Preliminaries held in Colombo on November 18 and 19.
The stakes were high as only the top 18 contestants from the Preliminaries advances to the finals.
In the Preliminary stage, Adheesha Dissanayake emerged as the frontrunner by winning 14 games out of 18. Imeth de Silva and Hivin Dilmith secured the second and third positions by winning 13 and 12.5 games respectively.
