Havelocks held their nerve to beat Police Sports Club by 16 points (1 try, 1 conversion, 3 penalties) to 5 points (1 try) in their Nippon Paint ‘A’ Division Inter-club League rugby first round fixture played at Police Police Park yesterday.

Overall it was a scrappy game as Havies opened scoring in the 12th minute when their full back Samuel Maduwantha slotted in a fantastic 55 metre penalty.

In the 34th minute they scored a try through their winger Randitha Warnapura and Maduwantha fired across the conversion. The score read Havies 10 to Police 0.

Havies went further ahead with Maduwantha’s 30 metre penalty in the 39th minute of play to take the score to13-0 which was the half time score.

Police cut down the lead to 5-13 in the 55th minute of play when centre Hirantha Perera sprinted his way over for an excellent try but Prince Chamara missed the conversion.

Havies further increased the score to 16-5 in the 71st minute of play with a 35 metre penalty put over by Maduwantha.
