Sri Lanka is seeking to join the World Tourism Alliance (WTA), a comprehensive global, non-governmental and non-profit tourism organisation in China.
The WTA membership comprises many national and regional tourism associations, influential tourism or tourism related enterprises, tourism destinations, non-profit organisations, academia, media and individuals.
“Joining this alliance will firstly give us a good brand marketing advantage for Sri Lanka as the World Tourism Alliance has several countries. in addition, it will also give us many other advantages,” said Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Chairman Chalaka Gajabahu after Sri Lanka Tourism welcomed President of WTA, Zhang Xu and top official of world tourism alliance to Colombo recently at Shangri La Colombo. Zhang Xu told the Sunday Observer Business that they will look at offering their membership to Sri Lanka Tourism in the future.
“WTA was formed in 2017 and its headquarters and secretariat is in China and its mission and vision is to create a “Better Tourism, Better World, Better Life.”
“WTA is committed to promoting tourism for peace, development, poverty alleviation and driving global tourism exchanges and cooperation at the non-governmental level.”
“WTA may later consider hosting one of our high profile Annual General Meetings in Colombo making it a large MICE event attracting members from several countries.” (SS)
