Legal Director to the President attorney-at-law Manoj Gamage who is the President of `Lawyers for Justice’ has sent a Letter of Demand requesting Rs.500 million to compensate for the damage due to a statement allegedly made by Deputy Director of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka and the President of the Government Medical Officers’ Forum (GMOF) Dr. Rukshan Bellana.
The Letter of Demand had been sent in connection with his statements made to main media and social media using public properties belonging to the NHSL.
The letter categorically refuted Dr. Bellana’s allegations. It states, Attorney-at-law Manog Gamage is a reputed professional with a reputed professional history of 20 long years and a political and civil activist who won the people’s hearts. He also worked as a popular news reader in reputed television channels. He has been a member of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka for 19 years.
The letter also denies any claims of rape while he was attached to the NMRA. The letter stated: the statement is absolutely false, malicious, and outright defamatory. These allegations are aimed to tarnish Attorney-at-law Manoj Gamage’s reputation. Dr. Bellana made the allegations using his official office room of the NHSL which is a public property on December 29, 2023. He used extremely inappropriate, unacceptable, indecent words that should not be spoken by a qualified professional doctor or any other educated individual.
These malicious allegations have harmed attorney-at-law Manoj Gamage’s reputation and misled the public causing him and his family considerable distress, leading to an estimated damage claim of Rs. 500 million.
