The Government has declared an island wide Dengue eradication program for a week from today (January 7).

Nearly 375,000 members of the three Armed Forces, Police, Grama Niladharies, Development Officers, PHIs, school teachers and school heads would be deployed to implement this program. House, office and business premises will be cleaned under this program, Kurunegala District DMO Dr.S.M.A.Priyadarshana told the Sunday Observer.

Secretary to the Ministry of Health Dr. Palitha Mahipala has already issued instructions to all Provincial Health Directors and MOHs countrywide in this regard.

He said last year more than 88,000 positive Dengue patients were detected countrywide. Nearly 61 Dengue related deaths were reported countrywide last year.

All householders are requested to extend their fullest cooperation to the officers who visit the houses and business premises for inspection for possible mosquito-breeding grounds, he said.
