Permanent Government appointments were given to 219 Multi-Purpose Development Assistants employed in Anuradhapura district and the letters of permanent appointments were presented to the employees by North Central Province Governor Maheepala Herath. Those who were absorbed into the permanent cadre include 72 drivers, 18 health care attendants and 5 telephone operators of the Health Department.
Addressing the appointments awarding ceremony at the Anuradhapura Provincial Council Auditorium, North Central Governor Maheepala Herath said it should be appreciated that President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena intervened to give these permanent appointments at a time the Government has suspended giving permanent appointments in the public sector due to the current financial crisis faced by the country.
The Governor appealed to those who were given permanent appointments to discharge their duties for the benefit of the public as they are paid and maintained by public funds.
North Central Chief Secretary Chandrasiri Bandara, Secretary to the Governor Vijaya Wanasinghe, Multipurpose Development Task Force Provincial Director Major A.M. Lasantha Kapila Kumara, Provincial Ministry Secretaries and Heads of departments were also present.
The Department of Multi-Purpose Development Task Force was established with the main objective of doing justice to 100,000 of the poorest of the low income earning citizens specially youths under the phase one with minimum educational qualifications from December 19, 2019 by a Cabinet decision No CP/19/3388/201/004 under the Defence Ministry.
