Senior journalist Kesara Abeywardena assumed duties as the Editor of our sister paper the Daily News from January 3, the date on which the newspaper marked its 106th year of publication. He is the 27th Chief Editor of the Daily News.
Abeywardena was the Editor of the Daily Mirror till May 2023 and thereafter functioned as its Consultant Editor till the end of December. He began his journalism career at The Island in 1998 as a trainee journalist. He was also a member of the founding editorial team of The Nation in 2006.
Joining the Daily Mirror in 2007, he moved through the ranks and was appointed the Chief Editor in 2015. He has wide ranging experience as a political and general news reporter, feature writer, Parliamentary correspondent, editorialist and columnist.
