Zahira College Colombo is set to commemorate its centenary this year as one of the few schools in Sri Lanka that began to play rugby way back in 1924.
Now with their endeavour to improve in the game further, they have joined the Global Partner network with the Leicester Tigers Club of the United Kingdom as the newest addition from Sri Lanka.
The Leicester club launched the program to support rugby’s global expansion by establishing long-term links among players and partners.
The collaboration will facilitate rugby camps and coaching sessions in Sri Lanka, paving the opportunity for Sri Lankan players and coaches to interact with Leicester, the United Kingdom and the Tigers’ Global Partner Club network.
Currently the program includes KL Tigers (Malaysia), Dendermonde (Belgium), Colorno (Italy), RC Diok (Holland), BK Lions (Thailand) and Delhi Hurricanes (India).
This collaboration of Zahira rugby is one of their attempts to further boost their rugby prowess. In addition, an International Schools Rugby Sevens Tournament is planned for March 2024, with the participation of overseas teams, primarily from the United Kingdom. Zahira Rugby will partner with Sri Lanka Tourism to promote tourism sector during the tournament.
