CR & FC made Navy SC see red when they buckled down to play constructive and penetrative rugby to romp home with a smashing 57 points to 6 win in their Nippon Paint League rugby encounter played at Welisara yesterday.

Realising that they should tighten up and resort to playing hard rugby adopting to the run and pass game CR notched up nine tries and six conversions to amass their points.

This happened after Navy SC took the initiative early in the game only to capitulate midway in the first half. It was all CR from that point onwards, especially in the second half when the Red Shirts pierced the fragile defence of the Navy to score almost at will.

The avalanche of tries began in the second minute of the second half with Randu Senanayake scoring off a short tap.

This was followed by tries through Raveen de Silva, Iranga Ariyapala and Rinesh Silva and Ruberu converted two of these tries.

The final ten minutes also brought about a sequence of tries at short intervals. Samith Warnakulasooriya, Rinesh Silva and Shehan Kelaniyangoda scored towards the end of the game for CR.

Taking over the kicking duties from Ruberu, Thenuka Nanayakkara was successful with all three conversions to give CR the grand total.

Navy SC began the first half on a positive note by taking the opportunities to score. They scored first in the fourth minute when a high tackle on one of their players had Steven Sansoni put over an easy penalty from 15 metres out.

They scored again in the tenth minute when they were awarded another penalty when a CR player was spotted not releasing the ball. Sansoni had a spot-on conversion from 40 metres out to give them the six points lead.

From that point onwards CR tightened their grip and began making use of the ball by passing it around and piercing the defence at every given opportunity.

They scored their first try in the 17th minute when they took a short tap and sent centre Randy Silva without an opposition.

This try was converted by Manilka Ruberu to give them the lead in the match.

CR scored again in the 23rd minute when another move saw Randy Silva go over for his second try off a three quarter move which was unconverted.
