CCD nabs six associates of Chinthaka

The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) apprehended six associates linked to gangster Nadun Chinthaka Wickramaratne, widely known as Harak Kata on Friday evening.

Nadun Chinthaka has been in Criminal Investigation Department (CID) custody since March last year under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA). He was taken in for questioning along with Salindu Malshika, alias Kudu Salindu, in Madagascar by Interpol and local law enforcement authorities.

The CCD arrested the suspects in Dikwella,Weligama and Athurugiriya for their alleged involvement in crimes with Nadun Chinthaka.

Police said that the suspects were residents in these areas, and were aged 24, 27, 32, 38, 39 and 43.

Police are looking for Police Officer Munipalage Ravindu Sandeepa Gunasekara who is believed to have aided Chinthaka’s unsuccessful escape bid from CID custody in September last year.

The police have offered a cash reward of Rs 2.5 million for any information leading to the arrest of the absconding officer.
