As expected this year, one of the leading favourites for the league championship defending champion Kandy SC thrashed a hapless Navy SC by 48 points (7 tries, 5 conversions, 1 penalty) to 7 (1 try, 1 conversion) in their inter club rugby match at Welisara yesterday.
At half time Kandy SC led 17-7.
But as the game progressed the Kandy outfit exerted their authority over the inexperienced Navy SC team and began mounting their three-quarter moves at will.
In the line-outs Kandy jumpers completely out-jumped their opponents while in the loose the Kandy forwards played a tireless game.
The Kandy three-quarters made some superb moves which caught the Navy lads on the wrong foot many times over and over again in the entire match.
For the winners Kandy SC the seven tries were scored by captain cum centre Lavanga Perera – 1, winger Dhanushka Ranjan –1, centre Tharinda Ratwatte -1, second row forward Thilina Bandara -1, scrum half Heshan Jansen -1, winger Kavindu Perera -1 and hooker Uchitha Jayasooriya -1.
Ratwatte made three converions while Nigel Ratwatte converted two tries.
For the losing Navy SC the solitary try was scored by Amith Madusanka with fly-half Isuru Kongahawatta slotted in the conversion.
