Ravi Arunthavanathan, mentor of Sri Lanka cricketers, no more

Ravi Arunthavanathan, the mentor of Sri Lanka cricketers from Richmond College, Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Suranga Lakmal and Kamindu Mendis has passed away at the age of 70.

Described as an officer and a gentleman, Arunthavanathan was a retired Air Vice Marshall and lived to see Hasaranga take a career-best 7 for 19 in an ODI against Zimbabwe last Thursday.

Arunthavanathan represented Richmond College in 1972 and was one of the most disciplined sportsmen in every aspect and also served as the tournament director when Sri Lanka hosted the under 19 cricket World Cup in 2000.

Former Richmond and Air Force cricketer Chamila Gamage was also another Sri Lanka player who benefitted from the presence of Arunthavanathan.

His remains now lie at AF Raymond funeral Parlor at Borella and his cremation will take place at the General Cemetery today at 5.30 pm with full military honours.
