Are you trying to figure out what this TIN thing is? Are you fed up of listening to Spotify on your way to work when you just feel like jumping up and dancing? Do you want to see a handsome drummer, a rebel bassist, two soul brothers and a good looking sound artist, personally administer that good muzak straight into your ear holes?

If it’s yes to all these questions, then come on down to In on The Green this Wednesday, January 18 and twist to the Tai Pihitai vibe. This is the first Orange Mango gig of the year, so put your game face on and expect much. Get on Orange Mango’s Instagram to find out how to get the tickets because we can’t do that on the newspaper (its company policy).

We’ve been getting to know Orange Mango ever since Tattu Pattu at the Goethe Institut last year, followed by the little ritualistic gig they did at Kamatha, BMICH with Amila Sandaruwan, the total boiler room of a show at the New Colonial and TEDx Colombo.

The Mango boys have never disappointed and kept the underground scene fresh. Orange Mango says they are proud to play original music at a pub in a city where cover bands dominate the scene. The diverse fusion has given way to a sort of expression that is very hard to put your finger down. The shows have been shakedown parties and the kids kept saying: “You guys should totally play Down South”. Well the Mangies will be at the Matara for Arts fest this Feb, so keep that in mind boys and girls.

Meet the band:

Sithijay Dilshan

(Slipping Chairs and Owltreeo)

The sticksman of the crew; the grinning, loving beardo at the back of the drum kit. Sithi had played a Christmas party last month and is slightly angry because people called him “little drummer boy”, so we’re expecting him to compensate by whacking those skins like nobody’s deal. Plus this guy manages the band, so he’s got a lot resting on his magnificent shoulders!

Sarani Perera

(The Soul, Owltreeo)

Hey he got married recently, so don’t forget to ask for cake. He’s been busy doing the Soul stuff Down South; heard they totally killed it at Dots Bay this New Years Eve with a jam sesh and whatnot. Looking forward to see him lick that guitar of his and stomp on those pedals like a total boss onstage.

Riyal Riffai

(Paranoid Earthling, Dot Dotay) and Uvindu Perera (The Soul)

Riyal was doing his thing with Mirshad and the Earthling boys at Industri last month while Uvindu had been Down South serenading surfers. Between them, there had been Illusion Empires and Optical Illusions. But it’s these duelling bassists that are truly working towards bringing punks and hippies together. Here’s to the groove that will slam a 6’2” guy in a Black Flag T-shirt straight into a girl with a septum ring and tribal crop top.

Dinelka Liyanage (Gum Gum, No Deal)

We all loved the Dracula laughs and the sexy sound waves coming out of Diny boy’s synthesizer. The scrawny bloke is expected to mash on those keys and make your body wiggle in the way it is supposed to. By the way, his mom made those costumes everyone is wearing.

What to expect:

There will be a lot of dancing. I mean a whole lot of dancing. The fire will be in the air as the Mangies usher in the Year of the Dragon in earnest retribution to the dreams that were dashed in the Year of the Rabbit. Save the date. Bring money!
