Youth should be encouraged to launch own projects – University Don

With the state discouraging public sector jobs, education institutions and universities are now trying to change the mindset of youth to gain employment in private entities and also start their own projects, said Chair Professor. Navaneethakrishnan Kengatharan, Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies & Commerce, University of Jaffna at the opening of the 14th edition of the Jaffna international Trade fair here on Friday.

He said that they are also updating their university education towards this direction and the youth too have responded to them in a positive manner. “we must understand to be non-dependent on state sector jobs and look at private sector employment opportunities are be accretor of jobs by starting their own enterprise.”

He also opined that Trade Exhibitions are very important and they economically activate regions as well as countries specially when they are recovering from a crisis’s. “This happened in Germany soon after the war and international exhibitions played a key role towards economic recovery in Germany.”

He said that similarly the Jaffna international trade fair also has helped economic recovery of northern peninsula.”

Nepal ambassador Bashu Ddv Mishra, a special invitee for the event during the sidelines of the event said that more steps should be taken to increase trade between the to countries. “Also, we also more economical air connectivity between the two countries.”

He said end of last year there was lot of business interaction between chambers of the two countries and this will help to increase trade.

He, however, said that it was too early to look for a FTA between the two countries.

Dr. V. K. Vignesh, Executive Director, Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Yarlpanam (CCIY) said that the event has helped to northern enterprises to find partners not only in the south but from overseas as well. He also said that when President Ranil Wickramasighe arrives in the North recently they also praised his economic rival process.

Arjun Dharmadasa, Managing Director, Lanka Exhibition & Conference Services Pvt Ltd (LECS) said the event was started during the tie of hostelities and thanked the sponsors who made the event to continue.
