For the first time, Tambapanni Leisure, a local hotel chain based in Unavatuna has expanded its foot print outside Sri Lanka by acquiring a restaurant in Australia adjoining the Gabba stadium.
This is in partnership with SIRUS Holdings of Australia and after forming a joint venture they hope to invest around Rs. One billion. “We plan to acquire a second hotel also adjoining the Gabba stadium,” said Prashan Dissanayake Founder Chairman, Thambapanni Leisure.

“We have already invested around Rs. 500 million to acquire, refurbish and reopen our first restaurant, Coco Gabba.”
“This restaurant was shut down after the COVID -19 pandemic and we saw the opportunity and acquired this and re operate it.”
The Brisbane Cricket Ground, commonly known as the Gabba, is a major sports stadium in Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, Australia and will be hosting the 2032 Olympics in the future. “I hope we will be able to offer a cup of local tea and meal to Sri Lanka athletes.”
The Coco Gabba could accommodate around 200 guests and is already gaining in popularity not only among Sri Lankans but from Australians as well,” said CEO SIRUS Holdings of Australia, Isuru Yapa.
“This successes prompted us to acquire the second restaurant which is also a joint the other side of Gabba stadium and negotiations are almost complete for this.”
“We hope to rebrand the second restaurant as ‘Ado Gabba.”
He also disclosed that they are involved in investments in the UAE.
