In a commendable effort towards community welfare, the Lions Club Yakkala City, a part of Multiple District 306, initiated a significant project on January 14, 2023, in Veyangoda.
The core objective was the distribution of 1000 coconut plants, 150 Mee, 50 Kubuk, and 100 Areca Nut Plants, aiming to promote economic empowerment and environmental sustainability.
This initiative not only supports future income generation but also contributes significantly to nature conservation. Participants and their families actively engaged in the plant distribution and enjoyed a refreshing program, aligning with the club’s commitment to addressing hunger and enhancing community well-being.
In a further display of support, over 30 families received essential dry rations, surpassing a value of Rs. 5000 for each family. The Lions Club of Yakkala City showcased its dedication by contributing Rs. 922,450, covering various aspects of the project.
Beyond the initial beneficiaries, an additional 30 families were provided with both plants and essential dry rations. The project’s impact extended to 1000 families benefiting from Coconut and Areca Nut plants, while Mee and Kubuk plants served 400 beneficiaries.
The event’s success was heightened by the presence of esteemed participants, including Legend Lion Sarath De Fonseka and other lions club officials emphasizing Lions Club Yakkala City’s unwavering commitment to community service, hunger alleviation, and sustainability. This project stands as a testament to the Lions Club Yakkala City’s dedication to positive change, addressing hunger concerns, and contributing to a sustainable and prosperous future.
