Army men and Air Force women boxers dominated the 96th National Boxing Championship held at the Royal MAS Arena in Colombo that concluded on Wednesday (17).
The event organized by the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) saw over 160 men and women boxers from 22 clubs vying for glory in 135 bouts spread across five days of intense bouts from January 13 to 17.
Chamil Pathmasiri of the Army won the middleweight title and was adjudged the Best Boxer of the meet. The Army team with an outstanding performance bagged nine gold medals out of 13 weight categories and retained the Muttiah Xavier Memorial Challenge Cup for the Most Successful Men’s Club.
Air Force women continued their supremacy, securing the Neiva Embuldeniya Challenge Trophy. Ishara Thushari Perera of the Air Force won the Featherweight category and was named as the Best Boxer among the women.
