The Prime Minister of Thailand, Srettha Thavisin will participate as the Guest of Honour at Sri Lanka’s 76th Independence Day commemoration. His visit, scheduled for February 3, holds dual significance as it will strengthen bilateral ties through the signing of the Sri Lanka-Thailand Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

The invitation extended by President Ranil Wickremesinghe to the Thai Premier signifies the amicable relations between the two nations.

The Independence Day celebrations, due to be held at Galle Face Green this year will focus solely on tributes from the Tri Forces to the nation.

President Wickremesinghe, emphasising the importance of the event, has instructed the Director General of the Government Information Department, Dinith Chinthaka Karunaratne to compile a special commemorative volume for the guests attending the Independence Day celebrations.

The President has also directed the publication of the Sri Lanka-Thailand FTA in Sinhala, Tamil, English, and Thai languages within the commemorative portfolio to ensure full transparency.
