National Award-winning singer and daughter of veteran composer Ilaiyaraaja, Bhavatharini, succumbed to cancer on Thursday, January 25. She was undergoing treatment in Sri Lanka and died at the age of 47. The musical legend took to social media to share a throwback photo with his daughter. On Friday evening, Ilaiyaraaja shared an emotional throwback photo featuring him and his late daughter during her childhood. The black and white photo captured a tender between the father and the daughter. In the photo, Ilaiyaraaja donned a kurta and was wearing headphones, as he seemed to be reading a book to Bhavatharini. The caption, penned in Tamil, simply reads “Dear daughter.”

Her mortal remains have been brought to Chennai from Sri Lanka. Actors Vishal Krishna and Karthi were some of the first stars to arrive at Ilaiyaraaja’s home to pay last respects. Her final rites took place yesterday.

A prominent figure in the music industry, Bhavatharini was an Indian playback singer, music director, and composer. She made her debut as a playback singer in the Tamil film Ninaithen Vandha (1998). She also composed music for the films including Dumm Dumm Dumm (2001) and Kalvanin Kadhali (2003). (Bollywood Hungama)
