The BCCI has never been wrong according to them and they have now been forced to eat humble pie as the International Cricket Council (ICC) which is represented by officials from around the world have picked Sri Lanka women’s cricketer Chamari Atapattu as its ODI Player of the Year (2023).

Chamari was not taken into account when players were put up for auction at the women’s segment of the Indian Premier League (IPL) although she was somewhat regular at the Australian Big Bash.

“I am always grateful to my team-mates”, said Chamari. “Without them I would not have come this far. I always play for my team and give priority for national duty. Opportunities for more franchise tournaments paved the way for my success,” said Atapattu in an interview with the Daily News.

Among her many achievements Chamari led from the front in 2023 as the Sri Lanka women’s team beat New Zealand for the first time in an ODI series that weighed heavily in her favour.

For the record Chamari celebrates her 33rd birthday on February 9. She had her education at Ibbagamuwa Central College in the Kurunegala district.
