With Sri Lankan economy showing signs of recovery many of the misconceptions Europeans had towards employing local labour is fast diminishing, international award winning labour expert, Upul Herath told ‘Sunday Observer Business’.
Herath is the Chairman of Beverley International (Pvt) Ltd, an overseas education consultant and student recruitment agency, at Liberty Plaza. He said that during the economic crisis, countries specially in Europe had second thoughts of hiring Sri Lankans. “Most of the countries were even reluctant to offer visas for Sri Lankans.” He said that even with multiple unblemished travel records to many countries, he too found it difficult to travel from country to country in Europe since they were very suspicious and clinical about Sri Lankans.
“Today thankfully this image is fast changing and Sri Lankans are again back in business in the European labour market and in many other countries as well.”
He said that the payments structures that we offered during the pre-economic crisis period are now been offered which shows that demand for local workers for recruitment is back.”
“However, he said that this positive sentiment is being exploited by some bogus employment agencies and cautioned not to get hooked on bogus promises made by them.
An expert in the migration filed for over 20 years having a clean track record of sending Sri Lankans specially to the Romanian market, he said that It’s almost impossible to obtain jobs in European countries by obtaining a holiday visa. Beverley International has over 16 years of experience in overseas education consultancy and has successfully placed over 4,000 students in top ranked universities in the UK, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, USA, and Europe.
